Last Thursday we had a great show featuring Manny Hernandez (@askmanny on twitter).  Manny takes the word “Advocate” to the next level.  Involved in so many projects that benefit people with diabetes and the community, online and off, I often wonder when he sleeps.

In addition to all of the good he does, he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met.

The day of the show, Manny was in New York working with Sanofi Aventis on the Diabetes Data Design Challenge.  We got to hear a lot about the semi-finalists, which was a lot of fun.  I appreciated hearing about finding new ways to help people with diabetes make use of the overwhelming amount of data and information that we are drowning in, without adding an additional layer of work.  I can’t wait to watch the contest as the winners are announced.

We were also pleasantly surprised when Laura Kolodjeski, from Discuss Diabetes (Sanofi’s diabetes blog), stopped by and asked Manny to say “hello” to us.  We are big fans of Laura and appreciate all of the work she’s doing.  Thanks for saying hi Laura!

And finally we learned about some of the activities happening for the IDF’s “Unite for a Healthy Future” event in Central Park, NYC on Sunday, 9/18.  What an incredible group of people and activities.  I wish I could be there!

It was a really great show, and I hope you’ll take the time to listen.  One thing I most appreciate about Manny is that he makes involvement and advocacy sound so accessible for anyone.  It is encouraging, and helps people, at any comfort level, at least dip their toe in the advocacy water.
