Brandy Barnes, MSW is the Founder & CEO of DiabetesSisters. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and her master’s degree in social work with a concentration in health settings from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Over the last two decades, she worked in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, gaining valuable experience in diabetes clinical research (UNC Diabetes Care Center), nonprofit/volunteer management (American Cancer Society), and diabetes sales/marketing (Sanofi). Her areas of interest include women’s issues, mind-body connection in disease management, and peer support models. She has served as a member of the North Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council since 2002 and the American Diabetes Association’s Women’s Workgroup since 2010. She is also an active member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. She has lived with diabetes for 22 years and is the mother of a six-year old daughter.
