Barbara Campbell has been married to Jon (kssoup) for 4 years. They have 4 daughters, ages 26-20 and 5 grand dogs. She works in the finance department of a community bank and serves in her community as an active Community Emergency Response Team member. She is active in her church and volunteers as the Social Media Coordinator with One5 Foundation.
Oh and btw. . she has LADA T1 Diabetes and is a breast cancer survivor.
Diabetes entered her life in 2009 when she was misdiagnosed with T2. After diet and exercise was proven ineffective, she stumbled into the DOC and the caring friends she made online were the lifeline she needed to be properly diagnosed and start on insulin.
In 2011, following her annual mammogram, she received the call every woman dreads. Within a few days it was confirmed; breast cancer. Since that day in March, she has completed 8 rounds of chemotherapy, a double-mastectomy with reconstruction surgery, a post-surgical staff infection requiring more surgery and radiation therapy.
Through it all, her faith has carried her, her family has lifted her and her friends and the DOC have given her the strength and courage to fight.
She is now a Diabetes Advocate, involved in her local JDRF AT1 Group, encouraged her city’s involvement in the WDD Light the Monument project, a Susan G Komen Ambassador, speaker, blogger and nutrition and health advocate.
